المعنى الاصطلاحي
Going astray and deviating from the truth.
الشرح المختصر
"Dalaal", or misguidance, means lack of uprightness upon the straight path, whether in words, deeds, or beliefs. Misguidance is divided into two categories: 1. Misguidance in knowledge and beliefs, such as the misguidance of the disbelievers and the idol worshipers, and those who negate Allah's attributes. 2. Misguidance in actions and rulings, such as the misguidance of the sinners. From the reasons of misguidance: abandoning the Qur'an and Sunnah, giving precedence to the mind, innovation, personal desires, argumentativeness, ignorance, bigotry, etc.

"Dalaal": going astray, getting lost. Original meaning: unconsciousness, hiddenness. Other meanings: destruction, confusion, doubt, invalidity, forgetfulness.
