A "muzaffat" (tar-coated) is a container that is coated with a layer of tar, which is a black solid substance that is liquified by heat, on the inside. These were used to keep dates or raisins mixed with water to produce a sweet beverage. Mixtures kept in such containers would ferment quickly.
