المعنى الاصطلاحي

Pouring water over the whole body with the intention of removing the major ritual impurity.

الشرح المختصر

"Ghusl" (ritual bath) means washing the whole body. It is done by pouring water over the entire body, from over the head down to the bottom of the feet, while having the intention to remove the state of major ritual impurity resulting from "janābah" (sexual impurity), menses, or postpartum bleeding. This must be done to make the person eligible to perform the prayer and other acts of worship. "Ghusl" may also be done with the intention of getting closer to Allah and receiving reward, such as the recommended "ghusl" before assuming "ihrām" (ritual state of consecration) for Hajj or ‘Umrah before entering Makkah, making "ghusl" on the day of Eid, and the like.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Ghusl": purifying and cleaning with water. Other meanings: removal of filth by pouring water on it, washing the entire body.

التعريف
