المعنى الاصطلاحي
Diligence in learning the religion of Islam and its rulings that came from Allah and His Messenger as derived from sound resources.
الشرح المختصر
"Talab al-‘Ilm" (seeking knowledge) is two categories: 1. Individual obligation: It is seeking to learn what is obligatory for each Muslim, such as the fundamentals of belief, the rulings of prayer, etc. 2. Communal obligation: It is seeking to learn what preserves the religion, such as memorizing the Qur’an, Sunnah, principles of Jurisprudence, and the like. 3. Sunnah (recommended): It is specializing and increasing in knowledge.
