Scholars divide "takāthur" into two types: 1. Blameworthy "takathur": It is increase in anything other than obedience to Allah and His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. 2. Praiseworthy "takāthur": It is to increase in goodness that leads to the pleasure of Allah.
