Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (eating the flesh of) all carnivorous animals which have fangs and all birds which have talons.

شرح الحديث :

The basic principle concerning all eatables, including meat, is that in general they are permissible, save items excluded based on a particular Shariah-approved evidence, such as all carnivorous animals, which have fangs, and all birds, which have talons. Accordingly, it is prohibited to eat the flesh of all carnivorous animals with fangs; the prohibited animals are those having the two attributes of an innate predatory nature and fangs, such as lions, wolves, and tigers. If any of these two attributes was missing in any animal, then eating its flesh would not be prohibited. Similarly, it is prohibited to eat the flesh of birds with talons such as eagles, falcons, hawks, etc.
