المعنى الاصطلاحي
The Night Journey of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, from Makkah to Baytul-Maqdis (Jerusalem) on the "Buraaq" (a riding mount from the heavens) and his return on the same night.

"Israa": walking at night, or walking most of the night, and not just part of it.

A miraculous event that happened to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when he travelled from Makkah to Jerusalem in Palestine, riding al-Burāq, then ascending from there to the seventh heaven, then returning to Makkah. All this took only a portion of the night. He went on this night journey physically and spiritually, fully awake, not in a dream.
