التعريف

The elongation of the long vowels that form part of the separate letters occurring at the beginning of some Qur'anic Surahs. These are seven letters, each pronounced in full as three sounds, with the middle one being a long vowel and the last a full consonant followed by no short vowel. These letters are n, q, ṣ, s, l, k, m, and some scholars add the Ꜥ. These are pronounced respectively as nūn, qāf, ṣad, sīn, lām, kāf, mīm, Ꜥayn. This type is also called thābit and lāzim. All reciters elongate this type in the same measure, i.e. Three times the length of the long vowel ā.
