المعنى الاصطلاحي

A statment of the Lawgiver (Allah) ordering to avoid something, but not in strictly prohibitory terms.

الشرح المختصر

"Karāhah" (undesirability) is a Shariah ruling that entails a religious assignment. "Makrooh" (what is undesirable) is an act that one is rewarded for abandoning, yet not punished for doing it. The Shariah demand to abandon something excludes three things: the obligation, recommendation, and permissibility. This is because the obligation and recommendation are demands of the Lawgiver which require doing something, whereas permissibility implies giving choice and does require doing or abandoning an act. Prohibition, however, requires the person to abandon something in strictly prohibitory terms, which is not the case with "makrooh" (what is undesirable).

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

"Karāhah": hatred. "Makrooh": hated, disliked. "Ikrāh": coercion, forcing someone to do something he hates. Opposite : "mahabbah/ridā" (love/contentment). Other meanings: ugliness, refusal, refraining, aversion.

التعريف

The import of non-categorical prohibition.
