Saying something about a person in his absence what he would dislike if he heard it.
الشرح المختصر
"Gheebah" (backbiting) is an ugly trait and disease of the tongue. It takes place when someone says about another in his absence what he dislikes to be said about him, whether it is about his body, religion, character, physical appearance, property, movements, or anything else related to him, and regardless of whether this is done by the tongue, by gesturing, or in any other manner, so they are all considered backbiting.
التعريف اللغوي المختصر
"Gheebah": speaking ill of someone in his absence by saying what he would dislike if he heard it. "Ghā’ib": absent. It is derived from "ghayb", which means something covered, unseen, and obscured.
