Interpreting Qur'anic verses by similar Qur'anic verses, then by the prophet’s sunnah, then by statements quoting the prophet’s companions, then tābiꜤīn’s statements, then by scholarly reasoning and efforts to understand the meanings of God’s word. All this must be coupled with true dedication to the faith, clear objectives and sincerity in one’s aim to earn God’s pleasure.
