التعريف
The powers delegated by the ruler or his deputy to al-Muḥtasib [i.e. market controller] to look into people’s conditions, provide what serves their interests, examine the way transactions are conducted in the market place, caution offenders and require them to repent of their errors, warning them of forthcoming punishment if they persist, and enforce discretionary punishments of persistent offenders.
