المعنى الاصطلاحي
Removal of filth or ritual impurity that prevents prayer.
الشرح المختصر
"Tat'heer" (purification) means removal of filth from the clothes, body, or place; or eliminating ritual impurity that prevents one from praying according to the Shariah. Purification is divided into two categories: 1. Major purification: which is bathing from sexual impurity, menses, and post-partum bleeding; or its substitute, "tayammum" (dry ablution) from sexual impurity (major ritual impurity). 2. Minor purification: which is making ablution after urinating, defecating, or the like; or its substitute,"tayammum" from minor ritual impurity.

"Tat'heer": cleansing, purification from impurity. It is also used to mean exaltation and exoneration.
