Judging actions as good or bad
(التَّحْسِينُ وَالتَّقْبِيح)

من موسوعة المصطلحات الإسلامية

التعريف

To make a rational judgement on action or a thing, stating that it is good or bad. This is done in three ways: 1) what is acceptable to human nature is good, such as saving someone from drowning, and what is unacceptable is evil, such as accusing one who is innocent; 2) what gives an impression of perfection is good, such as being a person of knowledge and what gives an impression of deficiency is bad, such as ignorance; and 3) giving a reward for doing something and inflicting punishment for not doing it. This is subject to controversy with the Sunni people saying that this is a religious, not rational, matter.
