(مَصَاحِفُ الصَّحَابَةِ)

من موسوعة المصطلحات الإسلامية

المعنى الاصطلاحي

The "mus-hafs" (physical copies) of the Qur’an that some of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, transcribed for themselves and which were named after them.

الشرح المختصر

"Masāhif-us-Sahābah" ("mus-hafs" of the Companions) are individual "mus-hafs" that some of the Prophet's Companions transcribed for themselves and were thus named after them. These "mus-hafs" did not necessarily include the entire Qur’an, nor were their surahs arranged like those of the ‘Uthmāni "mus-haf". They could also have included some commentaries on the Qur’an, some invocations, illustrations on reasons of revelation, etc. These "mus-hafs" included, among others: the "mus-haf" of Ibn Mas‘ood, the "mus-haf" of Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, the "mus-haf" of ‘Uthmān, etc. These "mus-hafs" were lost, and nothing remained thereof except a few narrations that people circulated.
