المعنى الاصطلاحي

The saliva that drips from one's mouth.

الشرح المختصر

"Lu‘āb" (drool) refers to saliva, which is produced in the mouth, that comes out of one's mouth without spitting. It is secreted by the mucous glands to provide lubrication for chewing and swallowing food and aid digestion. Saliva has different names, according to various cases, these are: 1. When the liquid remains in the mouth without spitting it, it is called "reeq" (saliva). 2. When it comes out, it is of two cases: a) If it is spit in a large quantity, it is called "busāq" or "buzāq"; if it is spit in a small quantity, it is called "tafl". If the person just blows air without any liquid coming out, that is called "nafth". b) If the liquid flows from the mouth without spitting, it is called "lu‘āb".
